When we mention India-G7 relations, we must consider the sheer importance that the Indo-Pacific holds for G7, of which India is an extremely crucial partner. To further their interests in the Indian Ocean Region and the greater Indo-Pacific, the G7 nations have thus been partnering up with India in the defence domain.

But without a common accommodative roadmap, and a framework in place it becomes very difficult for the two partners to engage fruitfully.
The first part of this report builds upon a case for deeper defence cooperation frameworks between India and the G7, while also recommending some of the primary conditions without fulfilling which, the frameworks cannot be implemented.
The second part focuses on the revitalisation of defence cooperation ties between Italy and India. Indeed in 2023, celebrating the 75th anniversary of Italy-India diplomacy, the two countries elevated their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership with defence cooperation at its core.
This strategic partnership represents a historic shift underscoring the importance of secure and open sea lanes for Europe-Asia trade by reflecting a shared role as maritime “bridges” between regions with significant commercial, energy, political, security, and military relevance.
